Skin- Lotion real good. Any dry or ashy spots will show in your photos (elbows, fingers, etc). Drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. We encourage the ladies to wear professional makeup to even out their skin tones, lips and eye cover. This will enhance the details of the face. Please book with a professional makeup artist and bring touch up makeup and lip coverage. We highly recommend booking an appointment with our makeup artist, in advance.
Book Our MUA.
We highly recommend our clients to schedule our makeup artist to maximize their portrait experience.
Fingernails- Please make sure your fingers and hands are well hydrated and manicured. The camera will catch dry cuticles.
Hair- Be sure to get a hair cut/hair style that will not be in the way of your face, but show your best look. If there is anything that you may not be comfortable with, please let the photographer know. If you decide to wear hair extension/wigs/weave, please have it in place and prepare it with “hair control” to keep it in place.
Eyes- Be sure to get plenty of sleep and rest the night before. It will show in your eyes if you don’t.
Teeth- Be sure that no food is in between your teeth. The camera will get it.
Wearing your Mask: Be sure to wear a soft mask to avoid the mask marks on your face. We want to eliminate these marks in your portraits.
Outfits: Bring any 1 to 2 outfits pressed on hangers. Avoid wrinkled clothes, white, and small strips; as they can make you appear flat and wide. Remove tag and stickers ahead of time. Make sure your shoes are nice and clean---we could get pictures of your shoes also. Bring complementary accessories to support your outfit. Bring extra shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty, especially if you have heels.
Undergarments: please wear appropriately sized undergarments to support your chest, waist, and loins. Loose undergarments will show and appear saggy—and tight undergarments will create skin rolls. We ask that you be cautioned when considering white as a part of your wardrobe, as it does bring attention to undergarments.
Eating: To avoid sleepiness and feeling sluggish, don’t eat 1 hours before your session.
Props: You can bring any props to help cater to the theme of your photos. We may have you on the ground or leaning on a walls.
Music: I will have a Bluetooth player on set. Feel welcome to download a playlist of your favorite music to play on your phone. We want you to be comfortable.
Please be on time; we will be on a time schedule. Don't bring a whole entourage with you. Less is best. The more people you have the more pressure you'll here on you. If you need a person to help out with your makeup/hair touchup, please bring them!
Parking may be limited.
Price: starts at $350 (additional sessions and people may result in additional fees)
Time: Up to 1 hr

How to prepare for a successful session with Lamar Borius Photography+Design
For Baby
If nursing or bottle feeding breastmilk, try to eliminate caffeine from your diet for 72 hours prior to your session.
If bottle feeding, breastmilk or formula, please bring along a bottle to feed baby during your session.
Please feed baby about an hour prior to your session, and then that hour prior try and have some ‘awake’ time if possible, bath, let them kick with only a diaper on, tickle their toes, even letting them fuss for a little bit, etc. This will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures! I can’t stress enough that it is so important to do your best to keep them awake. Many parents come in saying “baby has been sleeping all morning, but don’t worry, they sleep SO well this time of day!” only to have baby wake up, since they will be unclothed and unswaddled.
Dress baby in a button/zip up outfit, just ideally nothing that goes over baby’s head so if they’re sleepy when you arrive we don’t disturb them too much :)
Please bring a nuk/pacifier (preferably the soothie pacifier the hospital provided, they won’t leave marks). Even if you haven’t used one yet or baby doesn’t seem to take to it, just for the 2-3 hours that I’m posing baby it can really help. However if you really prefer that we don’t use one, that is fine as well. Brings normal item you take with you when you are away from home with the baby.
Bring any special baby accessories, and any important props, heirlooms of your family that you’d like included, just let me when you arrive so I can include it in the flow of your session.
For Parents
The studio area will be normal temperature so please dress comfortably.
I have some beverages and snacks available while you are relaxing.
If you are planning on parent photos, a simple all white and all black top will be perfect! Same goes for dad. Parent photos will take place about the last 20-30 minutes of your session. I do love photographing the connection between you and your baby! Even if you don’t think you want a photo with you and your baby, please do reconsider. For the most part, parent shots are taken chest up and take just a few minutes. They are only little for a little while :) If you do decide to have parent and/or family photos, please be sure that your nails are manicured (nothing fancy, just not chipped polish ideally :)) as your hands will make their way into the photos. Coordinating outfits will be a great element as well. Also, please know that I aim to photograph using flattering angles and light to create beautiful images you will cherish.
For Siblings
I typically photograph siblings (and parents) at the end of the photo session, about 1.5 hours into the session. It works best for siblings to arrive then, vs staying for the entire session, but I can accommodate your family’s needs. Again I do have a separate room available for the kiddos and family to hang out in until it’s their time to shine. For mini sessions specifically, family is invited to come for the entire session, depending on baby’s sleepy status, we may start with sibling/parent poses or even in the middle.
Just like for you, simple is better for clothing! If you would like to coordinate clothing—feel welcome to do so.
